Warriors are brave. Lovers are fearless. Pyar kiya to darna kya, after all! Crown Prince Salim is slave to the beauty of palace maid Anarkali. Akbar The Great will not allow his successor to make a commoner his queen. Father and son decide to settle the matter on the battlefield. Eventually, Akbar entombs Anarkali alive in a brick wall.

Sepia
The grand masterpiece takes eight years to complete. Though the film is in black and white, a massive Sheesh Mahal set is constructed and Pyar kiya to darna kya is shot in colour. It is the biggest grosser of its time. The grandeur of the entire enterprise is yet to be surpassed.

Uncut
The story of Anarkali is unsupported by historical evidence. Yet, Anarkali's mausoleum exists in Lahore. Asif changed the popular legend by letting Anarkali escape through a false bottom in the wall.
