This film is based on Emily Bronte's Wuthering Heights. Originally, Vyjayantimala is cast for the lead role. But she shifts allegiance to Raj Kapoor and is promptly replaced by Waheeda Rehman. Vyjayantimala accuses Dilip Kumar of chucking her out of the project. She demands compensation and gets it.
