The Sensex on Wednesday closed down 303 points at 9536, a loss of 3.08%.
The market witnessed high volatility today amid significant weakness in realty, banking and metal stocks.
The Sensex opened 156 points lower at 9,684, and a brief decline the index rebouned into the positive zone and touched a high of 9,929 - up 245 points from the day's open - following better-than-expected IIP numbers for September.
The index, however, slipped back into the negative zone and drifted lower in mid-noon trades.
The index tumbled to a low of 9,377 - down 552 points from the day's high. Selective buying towards the end, helped the Sensex cut losses and finally settle with a loss of 303 points.
