Ads that struck a chord

April 26, 2007

Commercials today form an integral part of television business. And advertising as a medium has undergone a sea change over the years, some having left indelible marks on our minds. Which ads appeal to you the most? Is it that only ads that feature big names taste success? Or is it that you can make great ads out of not-so-well-known faces as well? To seek answers, read on.

Here we take you through a few popular commercials, designed and executed by FCB Ulka, that have struck the right chord with audience.

'Hello, Can you hear me?'

'Sorry, the line got cut!'

'Say it again. Your voice is breaking!'

Such sentences are quite irritatingly a part of almost every mobile conversation. Not anymore. Tata Indicom's superior technology has changed the way India talks on mobile phones.

FCB Ulka sought to address this problem with its television commercial for Tata Indicom that features actor Kajol.

One of a series of these ads revolves around a young man whose car gets stuck mid-way on his wedding day.

Kajol rescues him from the situation by letting him use her Tata Indicom cellphone. When questioned by an irritated and hurt bride about his delay, the man spells out the wedding vows instead of getting into an explanation.

He speaks uninterrupted on the phone while driving through tunnels, busy streets and even while taking an elevator.

The commercial's message: 'Switch to Tata Indicom and experience the difference.'
