'DEVELOPMENT ISSUES PRIME': United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan said on January 23 that he was convening a new business summit to help refocus attention on development issues that have been overshadowed by the Iraq war and the US-led drive against terrorism.
He was delivering a speech during the session 'The Future of Global Interdependence' at the Annual Meeting 2004 of the World Economic Forum in Davos.
Annan was referring to the involvement of businesses in issues ranging from AIDS awareness to corruption. Over 1,200 companies from 70 countries are already involved, but Annan wants the corporate world to do more in furthering the Millennium Development Goals.
