SUMPTUOUSNESS REDEFINED: The luxury car market also saw the arrival of new legends. Toyota Kirloskar Motor has launched the mid-class luxury sedan Toyota Camry, the best selling passenger car in the United States, in India in October.

Skoda will unveil its luxury sedan Superb, with a price tag or around Rs 25 lakh (Rs 2.5 million) in March 2004.

The next year may also witness the launch of the Rs 3-crore Maybach by DaimlerChrysler. Bentley's Rs 2-crore Arnage R car is also slated for its royal ride in 2004.

The other big players who might enter the Indian market this year are luxury carmakers like Porsche and Maserati. German auto giant Bayerische Motoren Werke (BMW) has also plans to set up a subsidiary in India for assembling its 3-Series, 5-Series and 7-Series range of cars.

The Maybach 62 costs an astronomical Rs 3 crore, give or take a few lakhs.
