STERLING PERFORMANCE: The mid-size car segment showed tremendous growth potential in 2003.

Tata Motors continued to attract new buyers for its Indigo. Joining the price war, General Motors and Ford introduced the Corsa and Ikon models, cutting their prices by as much as Rs 50,000.

While General Motors launched Chevrolet Optra, Hyundai rolled out the Accent Viva. Honda Siel Cars, meanwhile, unveiled its new City model.

In the compact car segment, the major players -- including Hyundai, Maruti, General Motors, Ford and Fiat -- launched variants or upgraded versions of their existing models.

General Motors too made its presence felt in the compact car segment with its Opel Corsa Sail.

General Motors rolled out Chevrolet Optra from its Halol plant in June.
