Demonstrations expected during WEF meet in New YorkThousands of demonstrators espousing different causes are expected to be out in New York for five days starting Thursday as political and business leaders attending the World Economic Forum discuss varied issues including globalisation, economic slowdown, poverty and conflicts. But by far the demonstrations would be against globalisation which, critics blame, for economic slow down, growing poverty, hunger and other ills. Police expect the demonstrations around Waldrof-Astoria Hotel, venue of the Forum, to be peaceful but are not taking any chances and preparing for any eventuality. The police effort is to allow various groups to demonstrate in designated areas but enforcement of the law that prohibits group of demonstrators from wearing masks could spark trouble. Protestors say they might wear masks espousing their causes. About 4,000 policemen would be around the venue of the meeting enforcing order and providing security to leaders including Afghan leader Hamid Karzai who will apparently try to seek investments in his war-torn country from business people.
