March 1930 was the last time Gandhiji saw Sabarmati Ashram. He had taken a vow to never return to the ashram till India became independent.
When India did become independent, Gandhiji was too busy healing the wounds of Hindu-Muslim violence -- the result of Partition -- to return. Then, in January 1948, he was assassinated.
