Shaking the foundations of the British Empire

It was from these very premises that, on March 12, 1930, Gandhiji began, with 78 others, the Salt March to Dandi, in Navasari district on the Arabian Sea to protest the British salt tax.
During the 23-day march, thousands joined him.
When he reached Dandi, he raised a clod of salty moist earth and declared: 'With this, I am shaking the foundations of the British Empire.'
