It is the untiring efforts of India's founding fathers that ensured its unlikely survival, even prosperity in 60 years, but that alone is no guarantee that it will even last another 60, says historian Ramachandra Guha.
Dr Guha, 49, is the author of India After Gandhi: The History of the World's Largest Democracy, published this month in America by a division of HarperCollins.
He has taught at a number of prestigious universities including Yale, Stanford and the University of California at Berkeley. His passions include the environmental movement in India, cricket and Indian history.
