The feast of Mohammed Ali Road

Nearer to the masjid, the air overhead becomes increasingly thick and heavy, saturated with delicious scents -- spicy chicken tikka, smoky sheekh kebab and various sugary mithais.

A certain sort of festive spirit moves through the crowd, a palpable excitement on each and every face.

It's 6.10 pm and almost dusk, the long day of fasting is about to end.
