Sea, sunset & serenity

Harihareshwar and the areas around it, especially the village of Velas, are also a protected site for the breeding of the Olive Riddle turtles. It is said that they always return to the same place for breeding. The breeding season is from November to March. In the year 2004-2005, the Marine Turtle Conservation Society discovered 455 eggs near the beach in Harihareshwar and 255 (56.04 percent) hatchlings were released. The next year, about 285 hatchlings were released. (Information sourced from Sahyadri Nisarga Mitra)

Unfortunately, we didn't see any turtles or eggs. But the serenity and simple life of Harihareshwar was perfect to rest our tired city-saturated souls. We got what we wanted: peace of mind, sitting on the beach watching the sun set with the Savitri river rippling behind us, moving quietly into the vast sea. A place for happy endings, or maybe rejuvenated beginnings?

How to get there

The nearest airport is Mumbai 215 km away.
