Day One of the Lakme Fashion Week kicked off with a flourish, with the showcasing of designers Shantanu and Nikhil's latest collection.
Bollywood star Sunil Shetty was on hand at day one of the Lakme Fashion Week, wearing a pair of faded blue jeans, a stylish white belt and a breezy, button down white t-shirt (with 5 of the 8 buttons undone!). Shetty attended Shantanu and Nikhil's show with his wife Mana. Here, Rediff.com catches up with him:
Sunil, the scene for men's luxury goods and high fashion changed in recent years?
How? "Absolutely, it's changed a lot. Not long ago, there was nothing available for us guys. If we wanted something special, we had to go the tailors and try our luck. This change, towards recognising the fashion needs of men, was the need of the hour. We're still a couple of years behind the women, I think. But thank God we've come this far!"
Your favourite designers?
"It's very difficult to say. I really love the work of Shantanu and Nikhil. But, today, there are just so many talented designers. It's hard to choose. More than anything, I'm happy to see Indian fashion moving ahead in the world market and getting recognition."
And when can we expect you to walk the ramp?
"At this point, I'm not sure I'm good enough! Actually, no designers have asked me yet.
(laughs)"
