One look at Kallol Datta will tell you the man is all about fashion himself -- with his own sense of style and avante garde dressing his showing promises to be revolutionary and interesting, at the very least. His label, 'Kallol Datta 1955' has the date added on because it's the year his mother was born! Here, Kallol discusses his autumn/winter inspiration and new styles for this season.
About the collection: "My collection for this year is called 'Body Farm' -- it basically treats clothes as decomposing corpses! I know it sounds rather morbid, but it's been fun creating this line and I've been very inspired by Spanish surrealist painter Salvador Dali. He was very intrigued by putrefaction and saw icons of death in everyday objects. I've tried to use the same theory in creating this line."
Trends to watch out for this year: "This year is all about the shoulder -- nothing too constructed, drooping sleeves, top-heavy silhouettes and the like. A colour to watch out for is cement grey, accentuated by touches of powder pinks and blues; as long as you achieve a singular silhouette with any outfit, it will work."
Take on Fashion Week: "It's more of a brand-building exercise especially for designers like me, who are just starting out. I'm based in Kolkota and it's easier to take part in Fashion Week and showcase my work here rather than organise my own showings. It helps build publicity, with all kinds of publications highlighting your designs."
