A herd of spotted dear were grazing just outside our cottage while we were loading the gypsy for our first day's jungle trip.
Driving on the jungle track, we passed through tall green sal trees that occasionally gave way to bamboo bushes.
Pench is a dry deciduous forest. Kanha on the other hand, is greener and because of the dense forest visibility is less.
A short distance away we saw a cattle egret in a pond with his eyes fixed on a kill and a langur sitting on a branch of a tree nearby.
We, of course, were waiting to see a tiger, well aware one needs good luck to spot the big cat.
Our guide led the gypsy to every nook and corner of the park, looking for any marks/ traces the tiger may have left, but in vain.
There was no alarm call by any animal either and our gypsy rolled into a meadow with tall grass where we saw a Barasingha.
