With the market full of more models than one can count, it is a tough task deciding what to buy. But amidst the clutter there are some winners, going by the popularity charts. Given here are a selection, ranging from entry level to the top-of-the-line smart phones. Take your pick.
Nokia 6030
An entry-level phone, it has done well for itself boasting a smart design and solid feel for the price. The FM Radio and speakerphone are a bonus, generally not found in this category of phones.
Key features
~ A raised keypad, which makes it easy to dial by feel.
~ A 250-contact address book, and each entry can store up to five numbers, an e-mail address, a Web address, a street address and a note.
~ It supports MMS as well as predictive text in many languages, including Hindi.
~ It has a 65,536 colour display in 128 x 128 pixels resolution.
The frills
Few really, it being a basic phone and all, but its candy bar design with smooth, rounded corners and a sleek black and silver color scheme adds style to its otherwise simpler appearance.
You can download additional MIDI and MP3 ring tones and use the phone's instant messaging (AOL, Yahoo, and ICQ). The FM radio works only with a headset.
Some techie stuff
The battery is supposed to last 300 hours in stand-by mode, and three hours while talking. Supports Dual-band GSM coverage (GSM 900/1800).
What's not good
Disappointing display quality, navigational controls with a bit of a cheap feel and too bulky for a basic phone. Web access is avoidable on this phone.
Weight and dimensions
Weighs 90g, with dimensions of 104 x 44 x 18 mm.
Street Price
Rs 2,900
