Safety tips

October 5, 2007
All gymnasiums have the potential to be dangerous. It is especially dangerous in the weight room, where the chances of hurting yourself, or worse, hurting others, are very high. Therefore, safety is always a primary consideration. To ensure everyone's safety, adhere to the following guidelines.

~ Children using the gymnasium must be supervised by a parent/guardian or by gymnasium staff.
~ Do not work too close to other equipment you are not using, you might bump into it during your workout. It will also block access to the equipment.
~ Do not interrupt others in the middle of a set by talking to them or asking them a question. Wait until they have finished.
~ Provide a personal space, also known as comfort zones, while working out near others. Do not move too close to others when they are lifting as it can be distracting and dangerous.
~ Some exercises require more space to execute than others. So don't move close to others, you might just be in their way.
~ Do not leave weights or plates around on the gymnasium floor. Someone might trip over them and could injure themselves.

Prevention is the spirit of safety. Minimise the possibility of all accidents.

The gymnasium is a center of fun, friendly competition and sportsmanship. In a perfect world, everyone would use common sense and be thoughtful of others, unfortunately, we live in a real world not a perfect one. So, try to use common sense and common courtesy as far as possible.
