In the land of Lord Buddha
The ruins of the ancient seat of learning, which once used to accommodate 10,000 students and as many as 2,000 teachers from all over the world, is very well maintained by the Archaeological Society of India.

A walk through the ruins takes one to an era when India was a coveted place for learning. The famous Chinese traveller Huen Tsang, who lived here, had given a detailed description of the situation prevailing at that time.
We walked around the place that once used to reverberate with the sounds of thousands of pupils. There are stupas, monasteries, hostels, meditation and lecture halls and many other structures. The huge, thick walls stood as mute witnesses to the glorious past. Both Buddha and Lord Mahavira had blessed Nalanda with their presence.
