'Every day isn't a Sunday'

After so many successful campaigns, does Hital feel the pressure that comes with a reputation?

"I keep telling myself to remain consistent," he says. "While I do try to put in as much effort into new assignments, and make them as much of a success as my old ones, it's important to remember that every day isn't a Sunday. I just try to deliver what is expected of me every day that I'm on the job."

And delivering isn't always easy, according to Hital. "It's always a struggle in terms of ideas and originality -- I think that's a problem even the most creative ad-man faces. Sometimes I'll needlessly complicate an assignment, and then my boss (Senthil) will help filter my thoughts."

"As far as criticism is concerned, he continues, "my success has sparked off an idea out there, in the advertising world, that Hital Pandya works only for awards and recognition! That is so not true! I love my work, and although your work being recognised is a great high, it doesn't overtake your love of what you do. And then, there'll always be those who criticise your work. But that kind of criticism is good -- it helps ground you. I know that constructive criticism from my boss, for instance, is good for me. It helps me explore my creative abilities fully."
