Roses, roses everywhere!

The rose garden, which now has more than 2,000 varieties of roses, was set up in 1995 to celebrate the Botanical Garden's 100th flower show.

Spread over 10 acres of land in five terraces, the garden has the largest collection of roses in the country. It was recently awarded the Garden of Excellence certificate by the World Federation of Rose Societies recently.

Nilgiri Mountain Railway

Riding on the Nilgiri toy train was a memorable experience. Although we took the train ride (from Ooty to Coonoor and back) just for the experience, the train actually shuttles between Mettupalayam (1069 feet) and Ooty. It covers the 46 km distance in over four hours passing through 16 tunnels and 250 bridges.

If you have time on your hands, consider taking this toy train which chugs across rice fields, plantations, rocky terrain and forest-clad hills offering breathtaking views for a memorable experience.
