Call of the Blue Mountains

My first visit to Ooty was with my family as a schoolgirl. We were on a weeklong trip covering Ooty-Mysore-Bangalore. We had planned half a day's halt at Ooty, only to realise we needed at least two to three days to really take in the cool climate.

At 7,228 feet above sea level, Ooty continues to be one of the most sought after summer getaways in south India.

My memory of Ooty was of its cool climate and its wonderful Botanical Garden. It has hardly changed over the last 17 years.

Airfare for Rs 100 and less!

How to get there

By air: The nearest airport is at Coimbatore, 110 km away.
By train: The nearest railhead is Mettupalam (46 km) from where you can take the Nilgiri toy train.
By road: Ooty is well connected by good roads. It is 110 km from Coimbatore, 18 km from Coonoor (via Gudalur), 155 km from Mysore, 187 km from Calicut and 284 km from Bangalore.
