The Lion King

Much, much closer to our time, this, the 32nd film from the Disney animation machine, was released in 1994. It was adapted into an award-winning Broadway musical soon after, directed by Julie Taymor and featuring giant puppets and actors in animal costumes.

The stage show first opened in 1997, to instant success. It soon moved permanently to the New Amsterdam Theatre on Broadway in New York. Today, there are versions that run in London and Toronto, apart from touring versions at other venues around the world.
