This election, it will be a four-way fight between the BJP, Janata Dal-Secular, Congress and, interestingly, the Janata Dal-United. While the Congress is banking heavily on its good performances in the past, the BJP is banking on the inroads it made in this constituency during the Karnataka assembly elections where it managed to bag Chitradurga and Challakere assembly constituencies.
The Congress also managed to win Holakere and Hiriyur constituencies. The surprise package, however, was the JD-U that picked up the Hosadurga and Molakalmur assembly constituencies. While all these parties are banking on the success of the assembly elections, the JD-S says that it will manage a win due to the policies of H D Kumaraswamy when he was chief minister.
Milind Dharmasen, general secretary of the JD-S, says that the policies undertaken for Chitradurga would have gone a long way. However, they had a very short tenure and hence the policies could not be implemented.
