Chasing Vijayakanth
In the next village, Captain was greeted with crackers and a band. Here too, it seemed as if the entire village was there to listen to him. As he was leaving, we overheard a woman saying, "I never knew he was so dark. He looks fair in films."
The next stop was Siddharikuppam, another village. It did not look any different from the other villages we had covered: dry land and poor people. No roads, no water to drink, no water to cultivate the land, no hospital. If a villager is sick, s/he has to be taken through the broken roads to the General Hospital in the Vridhachalam town.
These villagers believe that Captain can better their lives and fulfil the promises: of clean drinking water, good roads, irrigation and medical facilities. A tall order, but the actor turned politician doesn't feel so.
"There is nothing impossible," he says.
