Vijayakanth, the messiah of the rural youth

Sakunthala came there with her cows. Her problem was whom to vote for. She and her family had been DMK supporters from the time the DMK started. She said, when the rains affected them, it was Amma who gave her Rs 1000, and rice, milk and biscuits for the children. "Because she helped us when we were in distress, I can’t forget her now."

Angappan had been an ADMK supporter ever since MGR started the party. "I was with the DMK first but when MGR started his own party, I started voting for Iratta Ilai [The ADMK's symbol]."

When asked whether any politician has done anything for the poor, "After MGR died, nobody cares for the poor. In the last two years, Amma is doing something good for the poor. I hope people will give her one more chance so that she could continue what she had been doing."
