This is first time in 17 years that India have lost an ODI in Adelaide.
Chasing 265, Australia lost Marsh and Head early before Short and Renshaw put on a good fighting stand to stabilise the innings.
India kept chipping at the wickets removing Short, Renshaw and Carey but youngster Connolly and Mitch Owen played calmly to keep Australia in the hunt and eventually Connolly took Australia to victory with a quick 61.
Arshdeep, Rana and Sundar had two wickets each.
Earlier, put in to bat, India posted a modest 264 for nine despite skipper Rohit Sharma's return to form with a 97-ball 73 (7x4, 2x6).
Shreyas Iyer contributed 61while Adam Zampa got 4 for 60. Xavier Bartlett took 3 for 39 including Virat Kohli for a duck.
Australia need 5 runs to win. Arshdeep continues and Connolly starts the over with a couple to the off side.
Connolly gets another couple to extra cover. Australia need just one now.
Connolly then lets the next one go and a wide is called and Australia win the match by 2 wickets. Connolly is the hero as he hits 61 off 53 balls!
Zampa is the new man in and he plays a dot to end the over as a wicket and 5 runs come off it.
Siraj continues and Connolly takes a single to start the over.
Starc then plays the ball to backward point for a dot.
Starc then stands tall and punches the ball straight down the ground for a four as mid-off and mid-on both are in the single.
