Jadeja strikes; NZ lose 4th wicket
November 02, 2024 15:49NZ 98-4 (28 ovs) & 235 vs India 263 | Scorecard
Sundar is back into the attack as he replaces Jadeja. Young pulls the short ball towards midwicket as Jaiswal swoops in quickly but the bowler is unable to gather the ball and Ashwin the back up puts in the dive but can't get to the ball, to give away another extra run.
Change of ends for Jadeja as he comes into the attack from the end, where he took his five-wicket haul in the first innings.
Ashwin, who took 1/32 in 11 overs, is replaced by Jadeja. He gets some extra bounce to beat Young before taking one to raise the 50-run stand for the fourth wicket with Mitchell.
The move to bring back Jadeja pays off. Mitchell looks to loft the spinner down the ground but ends up miscuing it high and senior pro Ashwin running back from mid-on takes a wonderful catch. He ran side on and kept his eyes on the ball throughout and managed to hold on despite tumbling to the ground.
The Jadeja-Ashwin partnership works wonders for India. Mitchell walks back after scoring 21 as New Zealand lose their fourth wicket.
Tom Blundell paddles the first ball he faces fine on the leg side for a four to get off the mark.
