'Murali takes wins and losses in the same spirit'

March 7, 2008

Before the Kandy match, all of us called him from here (Chennai) and wished him. A day before he left for the Kandy match, he had called me.

Actually, my daughter and I talk to each other practically every day. If he is there, I talk to him also. He is a very simple person.

On the 3rd of December, in the morning itself, my daughter called me from the Kandy stadium and told me that Murali had broken the world record. She was there with her in-laws, her son and other family members.

She told me, 'Amma, he broke the world record. I am so happy for him.'

All of us felt very happy for him, because he is a very hard-working, committed and focussed person. He is also one person who takes wins and losses in the same spirit.

Maybe, it is his maturity that helps him look at life that way. I have not seen him very excited, or very much down. He is always very cool.

In the evening, soon after the match was over, I called Murali and congratulated him. As always, he was not overly excited because he had the world record in his name.
