"It is fantastic for women's cricket in India that Jhulan bagged the award for the best player in the world. It is a big boost and I am sure it will be an inspiration for many young cricketers in India who wish to take up the sport," Shubhangi Kulkarni, the convenor of the BCCI's women's committee, told rediff.com.
"Jhulan has worked very hard on her game. She has single-mindedly focused on her role in the team and it has paid rich dividends. Everyone talks about her bowling a lot, but she has played a few important knocks with the bat for India. When Mitali Raj got that world record double century (214 against England in August 2002), Jhulan was at the other end and she also got a half-century (62 in a seventh wicket partnership of 157)," Kulkarni added.
However, Goswami doesn't think too highly of her batting abilities and believes that she can only contribute a bit with the willow.
"I am a bowler who can bat well. Whenever I get a chance to bat, I try to enjoy myself. I am not a proper all-rounder, just a bowler who can bat well," she says.
