'My idol is Glenn McGrath'

September 12, 2007

There is another Australian cricketer whom Goswami follows closely, and that is the recently retired Glenn McGrath.

"My idol is Glenn McGrath. He always looks to bowl a good line and length and that is what I try to learn from him," she said.

On whether she is sad that McGrath retired from international cricket after the World Cup, she replied: "I am not sad that he has retired from cricket. I think he retired at the right time, after winning the World Cup. He played a huge role in the victory and was the player of the tournament so he went out on a high. His age was also catching up and I think that was one of the main reasons even though he was quite fit."

Her favourites from the Indian team are two batsmeny. "In the Indian team my favourites are Sourav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar. I have been watching them since I was small, so I have grown up watching them play," Goswami said.

Goswami added that the tag of being the fastest bowler in the women's game does not hold any importance for her. She would rather bowl accurately and restrict the flow of runs.

"I may be the fastest bowler in the world, but for me it is more important to maintain a good line and length. In modern day cricket, whether it is Test matches, ODIs or Twenty20, it is important to maintain a good line and length," she says.
