Australian captain Ricky Ponting received the Player of the Year award from International Cricket Council President Ray Marli at the ICC Awards in Johannesburg on Monday night.
Ponting also scooped the Captain of the Year award and was named captain of both the ICC ODI and Test teams of the Year, chosen by a panel of some greats of the game.
The long lists of nominations for the men's individual awards have been compiled by a group of five selectors, led by Sunil Gavaskar, the former Indian captain and chairman of the ICC's Cricket Committee.
The panel also included Chris Cairns, the former New Zealand all-rounder, former South African batsman Gary Kirsten, Iqbal Qasim, the former Pakistan left-arm spinner, and ex-England captain Alec Stewart.
