Lord's: The home of cricket

July 18, 2007

They call it the Lord's: The home of cricket or the 'best cricket ground in the world', and anyone who has visits Lord's, at St John's Wood in London, will echo the same words. Whether you’re a player or cricket fan, there’s a special feeling when you enter the ground for the first time.

Originally founded by Thomas Lord in 1787, Lord's cricket ground is owned by Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC). It is the home of Middlesex County Cricket Club, the England and Wales Cricket Board, the European Cricket Council, and till August 2005, the International Cricket Council before it relocated to Dubai.

Actually, this is the third Lord's Cricket Ground. The first, built in 1787, was located in the area now known as Dorset Square. It was then relocated to a site called Lisson Grove in 1810, but three years later it was again relocated after the land was requisitioned for canal cutting. In 1814, it then moved to its present location at St John's Wood.
