It was Australia's biggest cricketing moment -- and it came shrouded in sadness.
On Thursday, Australia wrapped up a rare 5-0 whitewash of England in the 2006-2007 Ashes series -- and then mourned, as three giants exited the international stage.
Justin Langer, Glen McGrath and Shane Warne, having played key roles in the Ashes triumph, announced their retirement from international cricket.
McGrath and Warne had over the years forged a partnership that was largely responsible for Australia's pre-eminent position in the world of cricket; Justin Langer and best mate Mathew Hayden forged the strongest opening partnership in the contemporary game, getting the team off to the sort of start that allowed Ricky Ponting and his middle order lineup freedom from fear.
