Mohali - 1st Test | Motera - 2nd Test
Bangalore is one of India's most modern cities with its moderate temperature
throughout the year. The stadium in itself is well-equipped as far as the
infrastructure is concerned, it also houses the National Cricket Academy
colts. The Chinaswamy Stadium wicket is very sporting, it has something in
it for the seamers on the first day, gets easy on the batters subsequently
with the ball coming nicely on to the bat, and stars turning on the fourth
and fifth days an ideal Test match wicket.
The Chinaswamy Stadium has been a witness to many famous battles where most
of the Tests have had a result. Sir Vivian Richards made an uneventful Test
debut here in 1974-75 when the West Indies dumped India by 267 runs in the
first-ever Test on this ground. When Tony Greig's Englishmen played here in
the '76-77 series, India won the Test by 140 runs. In the '81-82 series,
India and England played a boring draw marked by Sunil Gavaskar's 172
spanning 708 minutes. Ian Botham's Test bowling record of 373 wickets was
broken here in '88-89 when Sir Richard Hadlee got Indian batsman Arun Lal's
wicket.
In December there will be some chill in the air, though it will be nothing
like cold enough to detract from the visitors enjoyment of Bangalore as the
city can offer much for the visitors apart from cricket.
Mohandas Menon provides some statistical information on those matches.
Tests played: 13 ; ODIs played: 11.
