The Kersi Dubash Chat

Vaihayasi Daniel (Thu Oct 24 23:02:59 1996 IST):

Ladakh is situated on a very stark widswept plain. And when you arrive there you are struck firstly by the absolute silence and secondly by the feeling that you have arrived on some moon-like terrain. Since the landscape is so remote and barren every bit of colour -- whether it is the green patches where the River Indus flows or the bright maroon habits of the lamas -- is magnified ten-fold. Being a strongly Buddhist territory, the peace and tranquility is not a figment of your imagination. The people are very warm, hospitable and peace loving. And there are certain features that you notice immediately -- no crime, no dirt, the clear, cold pure air and the fact that it is quite untouched by the ways of the modern world. Now Kersi can fill you in on the joys of living in the cosy Tiger Tops tents right out in the open.

KERSI DUBASH (Thu Oct 24 23:03:04 1996 IST):

No time to stand & stare: The price per person per night at Tiger lodge is 290 USD on twin sharing basis including all meals government taxes, park fees, elephant safaris and services or trained naturalists. And the price for Indians is Rs 5850 per person on twin sharing basis. Besides Tiger Tops lodge they also have the Tiger Tops Tented camps and the TT Tharu safari resort, that makes it a complete wildlife and cultural experince.

KERSI DUBASH (Thu Oct 24 23:10:57 1996 IST):

McCoy: Hi, there are other lodges like the Gaida wildlife lodge and Tented Camp, also in the Chitwan national park which would cost you approximately 175 USD per person, all inclusive. Indian rate would be around Rs 2950.

Vaihayasi Daniel (Thu Oct 24 23:11:43 1996 IST):

Kersi, why don't tell them about river rafting and the opportunities for trekking?

KERSI DUBASH (Thu Oct 24 23:12:14 1996 IST):

Ram Sinha (Thu Oct 24 23:13:06 1996 IST):

Chandy (Thu Oct 24 23:14:38 1996 IST):

Mr. Kersi, I had always wanted to do the Leh-Manali road on a mobike (the regular 100 cc or Yezdis) Do u have any advice/suggestions? Doable or not?? Also is it possible to visit Mansarovar? If yes! when and how?

Rick S Gallen (Thu Oct 24 23:14:54 1996 IST):

Hello everyone. Mr Dubash, it's a pleasure to meet you. In cyberspace. What in your opinion should be the ideal itinerary for a tourist -- not a backpacking one, mind you -- but someone who is on a business trip to Delhi and has a couple of days to spare in Nepal and the Himalayas.

MOUNTAIN GOAT (Thu Oct 24 23:16:08 1996 IST):

Sher Khan (Thu Oct 24 23:17:58 1996 IST):

That looks delicious! Smack! Slurp! Snarl! But that was definitely what I had in mind.

KERSI DUBASH (Thu Oct 24 23:18:10 1996 IST):

Vaihaysi: There are three ways of reaching TT or Gaida lodge from Kathmandu. One is via flight from Kathmandu to Maghauli the TT airstrip or Kathmandu to Bharatpur from where you drive to Gaida lodge or you can drive from Kathmandu which takes to 6-7 hours and the roads are not to the best of conditions . The best way of reaching Chitwan park is by taking a one night two day all inclusive river rafting trip on the Trisuli which is considered as one of the most scenic rivers in the world. The river rafting will cost for forigners approx 195 USD and for Indians approx Rs 3750, icluding the drive from Kathmandu to the river Put-In-Point, all rafting and tenting equipment all meals and services of trained raftsmen.
