The Kersi Dubash Chat

KERSI DUBASH (Thu Oct 24 23:21:51 1996 IST):

Rick S Gallen: From Delhi there are daily flights into KATHMANDU you can stay the first night in Kathmandu, start river rafting on day two, overnite in tents on the bank of the river , and the next day reach Tiger Tops in time for lunch, and you can spend two nights at the lodge two nights at Tharu village which I guarantee would be a relaxing and a wonderful experince.

Sher Khan (Thu Oct 24 23:22:23 1996 IST):

Kerrrrrrsi: That poor man Mike Symons has been rrrrrrepeatedly asking you a question! Why don't you answerrrrrr him?

McCoy (Thu Oct 24 23:23:13 1996 IST):

Hey, thanks for the tips. I will surely follow it up.

Santanam (Thu Oct 24 23:23:39 1996 IST):

KERSI, REMEMBER ME?!

Vaihayasi Daniel (Thu Oct 24 23:24:54 1996 IST):

As Kersi will probably tell you later in the chat the hotel rooms at Tiger Tops in Ladakh are these giant round tents called yurts styled after those traditional Mongolian tents. And while most tents are not that user-friendly these are spacious and comfy, something similar to probably what the Hun chieftain used in the old days as they swept across Central Asia! Kersi why don't you explain the connection between Tiger Tops and Ladakhi polo? And what about telling them about the special festivals in Ladakh and the best times to go?

Santanam (Thu Oct 24 23:24:57 1996 IST):

We meet in Vile Parle in 1987. You have become famous!

McCoy (Thu Oct 24 23:25:05 1996 IST):

santanam, DON'T be so LOUD!

KERSI DUBASH (Thu Oct 24 23:25:09 1996 IST):

Ram Sinha: The rats would be slightly lower from April through September but we haven't decided on the exact tariff as yet

Chandy: I don't think that MANALI-LEH on a motorbike is advisable as mostly the entire road is snow covered and only opens mi-July through to mid- September but if you are really the adventurous sort, I would advise that you rather drive than go on your bike.

Mike Symons (Thu Oct 24 23:27:00 1996 IST):

Mr Dubash. What I want to know from you is how expensive is it for someone like me who makes $ 50,000 a year to travel to the Himalyas? Can I have a holiday at Tiger Tops, for $ 8,000?

Rick S Gallen (Thu Oct 24 23:27:53 1996 IST):

Thank you for your generosity. What peaks will I see from Tiger Tops? And do you have a helicopter service to go over the peaks?

Sakhi (Thu Oct 24 23:28:10 1996 IST):

Ms Daniel: Did you try you hand at river rafting? Do tell a little more about the safaris.

no time to stand & stare (Thu Oct 24 23:28:59 1996 IST):

FORGET THE RATS, WHAT ABOUT THE RATES??

Santanam (Thu Oct 24 23:29:25 1996 IST):

I live in Sweden now. Tell me, I am not interested in the Himalayas. Give me a good destination in North India to go for a five day holiday. Unusual destination, yaar. Not the Rajasthan types. I should be coming down to Bangalore next year.

jalori mog! (Thu Oct 24 23:30:04 1996 IST):

Mr. Dubash, Good Evening. Do you know of a motorable link along the Sutlej from Simla to China, past Nako via Tibet? Have you any info for us on whether it's been done on bike already, legit or otherwise?

Ram Sinha (Thu Oct 24 23:30:10 1996 IST):

Do you only do Himalayan Holidays or do you do some other places as well?

KERSI DUBASH (Thu Oct 24 23:30:38 1996 IST):

Vaihaysi: The best time to go Ladakh is from mid-June to mid-September and Ladakh Sarai is the best place to stay in Ladakh which have 15 deluxe yurt camps and is situated at 11500 feet in the village of Stok across the river from Leh, the Sarai provides comfortable accomodation in tiwn beded yurts there are hot and cold showers and proper toilet facilities , candles and lanterns are used for lighting to maintain the serene atmosphere (more)

Mike Symons: Of course you can

Sher Khan (Thu Oct 24 23:31:08 1996 IST):

Kerrrrrsi: You'rrrrre becoming old, I think! What arrrrrrre you doing taking so much time to answer each question? Speed up, old chap! You don't want to leave people dissatisfied because you haven't answerrrrrrrrred theirrrrrr questions!

Vaihayasi Daniel (Thu Oct 24 23:31:12 1996 IST):

Ya. It was great fun but coooooold. The scenery was something else... exotic. You float down the ice-cold river in a rather precarious looking (but actually very sturdy) dinghy. Great stuff.

Chandy (Thu Oct 24 23:31:53 1996 IST):

Mr. Kersi, Thanks for the response. And what about Mansarovar Lake? What are the possibilities for that??

Ram Sinha (Thu Oct 24 23:31:58 1996 IST):

The next time you are going to a coooooold destination, Ms Daniel, take me along.

Sakhi (Thu Oct 24 23:32:40 1996 IST):

What else did you do there? What about the food? I'm a vegetarian - was the veg food good?

KERSI DUBASH (Thu Oct 24 23:33:26 1996 IST):

And one can visit the different monastries Shey and Thikse and Alchi monastries and which are all included in the package. A days river rafting on the Indus could also be arranged suggested stay in Ladakh is five to 7 days so that one can get acclamatized to the high altitude. The cost would be approx USD 150 per person per night all inclusive and the INR rate is approx Rs 3000 per person per night.

no time to stand & stare (Thu Oct 24 23:33:59 1996 IST):

hey man, y don't you reply to some of the others too besides just a few? that sinha guys's been breaking his fingers keying in the same query again and again and again and ...

KERSI DUBASH (Thu Oct 24 23:34:58 1996 IST):

Chandy: You can go to Kailash and Mansarovar from Kathmandu via Tibet and its a tough trip and an expensive one .

jalori mog! (Thu Oct 24 23:35:01 1996 IST):

Tapori?

Simran Singh (Thu Oct 24 23:35:23 1996 IST):

Hi Kersi. How you doing? What would you suggest: Ladakh or Nepal?

Ram Sinha (Thu Oct 24 23:36:00 1996 IST):

Ms Daniel: No offence meant. ;-)

Santanam (Thu Oct 24 23:36:45 1996 IST):

Kersi, don't get too big for your boots, yaar. answer my question no?

KERSI DUBASH (Thu Oct 24 23:36:50 1996 IST):

Jalori Mog: Sorry I don't know that route.

Ram Sinha: Besides Nepal I'm recently representing Block group of hotels in Kenya and have started tours to South Africa as well.

Ram Sinha (Thu Oct 24 23:37:27 1996 IST):

Isn't Kenya very dangerous as a tourist destination? Lots of robberies and all that.

Sakhi (Thu Oct 24 23:37:41 1996 IST):

KERSI DUBASH (Thu Oct 24 23:38:25 1996 IST):

Simran Singh: Nepal anyday because bedsides Tiger Tops u can do rafting visit Pokhara, Jomsom , Nagarkot or just gamble at the casinos at Kathmandu .
