Somdev Devvarman scored a comfortable victory over Germany's Denis Gremelmayr to enter the second round in the ATP Legg Mason Classic in Washington on Tuesday.
The Indian ace won 6-2, 6-3 in just under an hour.
He next meets seventh seed and world No 25 Marcos Bagdatis of Cyprus.
Baghdatis received a bye in the first round.
Somdev converted all the four break-points he got in the match and saved two chances off his own serve in the second set.
