Somdev sent down six aces in the 35-minute first set, during which did not concede a single break chance and converted one of the four he earned.
In the second set too, the Indian had the upperhand after breaking Gremelmayr and going 4-2 up.
The victory was Somdev's first on the hallowed greens of the All-England Club.
Earlier, Sania Mirza aggravated an injury in her left knee during her first round defeat in the women's singles.
It left her doubles title bid in disarray.
She was troubled by the injury and had the knee strapped during her 6-7, 6-2, 3-6 loss to France's Virginie Razzano.
Her doubles participation with Russia's Elena Vesnina now rests on the result of an ultrasound scan.
