Terror crackdown to see more arrests across India

The investigation into the assassination plot is getting countrywide focus with more people from different states likely to be picked up.

After the arrests in Hyderabad, the police have picked up four more people from Nanded and sources say that more arrests from Hyderabad are likely.

It is suspected that in Hyderabad, many others have been detained in connection with this case. The police are, however, tight-lipped about this and say that investigations are on.

Sources in the Uttar Pradesh Police say that they will need to question these youth as they do suspect that there were a couple of youth over there too who were part of this operation.

It looks like a brand new module and they were planning on targeting high profile leaders who they believe were anti Islam, say sources.

The police say that the call records of Akram, who is considered to be the mastermind of the group, indicates that he was coordinating with many people across the country in this case.

This has led the investigating agencies to believe that there is more to this and hence there are likely to be arrests from others parts of the country as well.

The details of the investigation look pretty sketchy for the moment

and there have been reports of this group trying to target installations in different parts of the country.

However, the major link that the police have on them is with regard to the assassination plot.

Most material is indicative of this plot, but we are also looking into the other aspects of this case, police sources said.

The strongest case is, however, against two persons namely Akram and Shoaib who are said to have managed this operation.

The case against the rest of the persons arrested is still under investigation and the police say that they would need more time to join the dots.

All the youths, who were arrested in Bengaluru, were living together in one house. The Hubli angle is, however, proving to be a bit worrisome for the police as they have not managed to dish out clues from there. 

Interestingly, this operation comprises youth of the newer generation and it appears that each one of them were chosen on the basis of similar mindsets.

It bears similarities to the agenda on which the Indian Muhjahideen was formed -- fight to protect the religion. However, unlike the IM, this group was out to target personalities such as politicians and journalists who they thought were a threat to their religion.
