Noting that there was no difference between Anna Hazare and the government on the need to fight corruption, Congress today welcomed Team Anna's decision not to campaign against any political party but against the issue of graft in five poll-bound states.

Law Minister Salman Khurshid said in Bareilly (Uttar Pradesh) that the government and Anna Hazare were never at loggerheads on the issue of fighting corruption and the difference was confined to only the methodology to do it.

"Anna himself had never said he would campaign against any party. But it was being thought out that he along with his friends would perhaps campaign against Congress. But this decision was never taken by him. Now after discussions, they have decided that they would campaign against corruption, which we welcome," Khurshid said.

He said even the government was campaigning against corruption and fighting hard to root it out.

At the All India Congress Committee briefing in Delhi, party spokesman Manish Tewari refused to attach much significance to Team Anna's decision.

"The large amount of noise heard in Delhi is not there when it comes to the ground," he said when asked about the decision.

He said the Congress was fighting the elections on the basis of its own performance.
