The Election Commission has issued a notice to Union Law Minister Salman Khurshid for his reported speech in Uttar Pradesh, in which he mentioned the proposal about providing an enhanced quota for the Muslim community.

Top officials of the EC will hold a meeting on Tuesday evening to issue a strict warning to political parties against making such statements when the campaign for the state assembly elections has started to gain momentum.

Incidentally, Khurshid is also a general secretary of the All India Congress Committee.

On Tuesday morning, a delegation of the Bharatiya Janata Party met EC officials and complained against the unusual announcement of an enhanced quota for Muslims by Khurshid.
