The Bharatiya Janata Party, which is emerging as the single largest party in Maharashtra, today ruled out any alliance with the Nationalist Congress Party but appeared to be keeping its options open on former ally Shiv Sena to form the government in the state.

"We fought the Congress party and the NCP, their corruption. We brought out skeletons of corruption from their cupboards. There is no question of allying with them," Union minister Prakash Javadekar said.

It will be an insult to us and the voters, he said when asked about the possibility of a BJP-NCP alliance to form the government.

"Why do you want me to take political decisions during a televised debate? The party’s parliamentary board will take a final decision," Javdekar added.

“BJP had never attacked Shiv Sena and Prime Minister Narendra Modi had made it clear during the campaign that we would not resort to such tactics,” Javdekar stated.

"We will emerge as the single largest party and our focus will be on good governance," he said as counting of votes progressed in Maharashtra.
