Some Congress leaders are intrigued by what they call Jairam Ramesh's 'defeatist approach' when the electoral contest has just begun.
Ramesh, who heads the Congress's election secretariat, they feel, is issuing statements as if the party has already lost Election 2014.
The Union rural development minister was first heard saying that the UPA leadership had failed to communicate with the masses.
Next, he said institutions like the CAG, judiciary and media had eroded the Manmohan Singh government's credibility.
Senior Congress leaders like Ahmed Patel, P Chidambaram, Digvijaya Singh and M Veerappa Moily feel Ramesh's comments have caused more harm than good.
The matter has reached 10, Janpath where Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi are likely to take a view on Ramesh's forthrightness.
But Ramesh, who enjoys Priyanka Gandhi's confidence, is least bothered about the consequences, if any.
