The Directorate General of Shipping on Saturday said that contact with the hijacked vessel, MV Delight, had been established and the Indian crew on board was 'safe and in good health'.

All sailors are in good health and condition, the Directorate said in a release.

Iranian ship MV Delight with seven Indian sailors on board was hijacked by Somali pirates on November 18. Delight, which bears a Hong Kong flag, was carrying 38,000 tonnes of wheat and had 18 crew members, apart from the Indian crew, on board when it was hijacked near the Gulf of Eden.

The Emergency Response Committee of the Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines is in touch with the pirates, it said.

Communication between the Emergency Response Committee and Delight has been established, it said.

The 18 other crew members include two Pakistanis, seven Filipinos, seven Iranians and two Ghanians.

The Indian seafarers had been employed by a ship management firm in Mumbai.
