A Hong Kong ship bound for Mumbai with 18 Indian crew members on board has been hijacked and taken to Somalia, officials in the Directorate General of Shipping said in Mumbai on Tuesday night.

'Stolt Valor', which bears a Hong Kong flag and carries over 23,000 tonnes of oil products, is reported to have been hijacked in the Gulf of Aden on Monday at around 1.15 pm, they said.

The vessel's last port of call was Suez, after which it was supposed to travel to Mumbai, officials said.

"As per information received by the managers from the Master, all 22 crew members on board are safe and the vessel is being taken to Somalia. Further details are awaited," a release from DG Shipping stated.

One Russian, two Filipino and one Bangladeshi constitute the remaining crew, the officials said.

The report received was an interim one and further details were awaited, they added.
