An incident involving the president of the Bharatiya Janata Party Amit Shah being trapped in a lift at the state guest house in Patna for around 40 minutes will now be investigated by a high-level committee.

The state government constituted a team on Tuesday to probe the incident that threw the party chief’s security into a tizzy. The committee will be headed by Principal Secretary Cabinet Coordination Shishir Sinha, an official said. He said the probe was being ordered after increasing demands from BJP leaders and its allies, some of whom smell a conspiracy.

Lok Janshakti Party chief and Union minister Ram Vilas Paswan who had demanded a probe into the incident said, “I have requested the Home ministry that if the state government failed to inquire into it, the central government should order an inquiry."

Sinha, who along with another senior IAS officer Pratyay Amrit, visited the guest house after the incident had said, "Prima facie overloading appears to be the cause of the incident."
