The Jamaat-e-Islami Hind has criticised Union Home Minister P Chidambaram for denying a probe in the death of three police officers, including Anti-Terrorism Squad chief Hemant Karkare, in the Mumbai terror attack.

M M Khan, president of Jammat units of Andhra Pradesh and Orissa, said there was nothing wrong in Antulay asking for a probe into the police officers' 'suspicious' deaths.

Home Minister P Chidambaram had said in Lok Sabha on Tuesday that there was no truth whatsoever in the suspicion that there was a conspiracy to eliminate ATS chief Hemant Karkare and two other police officials.

In fact, the Congress should have initiated a thorough inquiry into the circumstances leading to the death of three officers including Hemant Karkare, who was also investigating the Malegaon blasts, Khan said.

The Union government, by refusing Antulay's demand of probe into Karkare's death, has encouraged the Bharatiya Janata Party, the Shiv Sena and other Hindu fundamentalist organisations, he added.

Khan alleged that the country's internal and external policies are being influenced by the United States, Israel and the United Kingdom, who were known for their 'abuse of human rights'.
