The mood of celebration and the school holidays make Onam one of the hottest seasons for Malayalam cinema.

Top stars make it a point to come out with their best offerings.  This year, four big releases will add to the Onasadya, besides last week’s release, Peruchazhi, starring Mohanlal.

Mammootty plays the hero in Ajai Vasudev’s Rajadhi Raja, and the hit pair of Kunchacko Boban and Biju Menon team up in Johny Antony’s Bhaiyya Bhaiyya.

Sudheesh Sankar banks on Dileep’s comic timing in Villaali Veeran. Prithviraj plays one of the seven thieves in Anil Radhakrishnan Menon’s Saptamasree Taskaraha.

Rajadhi Raja

Director: Ajai Vasudev

Cast: Mammootty, Lakshmi Rai

Newcomer Ajai Vasudev directs Rajadhi Raja, a colourful entertainer. It is scripted by the hit pair of Siby K Thomas and Udayakrishna.

Mammootty plays the manager of a petrol pump and restaurant. Lakshmi Rai plays his wife. Trouble starts when her relative comes to visit them.

After a poor response to some of his films, Mammootty has had reason to cheer with the decent response to his last two releases, Manglish and Munnariyippu.

Rajadhi Raja will be the acid test for him.

Villaali Veeran

Director: Sudheesh Sankar

Cast: Dileep, Namita Pramod

Dileep has been the darling of the box office after the number of hits he has produced in recent years.

In Sudheesh Sankar’s Villaali Veeran, he plays a vegetable vendor, who decides to marry the daughter of a rich man in order to get himself and his family out of a financial mess.

The director says that the film is not just another comedy but comes with a message as well.

Bhaiyya Bhaiyya

Director: Johny Antony

Cast: Kunchacko Boban, Biju Menon

After blockbusters such as Ordinary and Romans, Kunchacko Boban and Biju Menon have become the most successful pair in Malayalam cinema.

They come together again in Johny Antony’s Bhaiyya Bhaiiya, a laugh riot.

Kunchacko plays Babu and Biju plays a Bengali gent. Kajal Aggarwal’s sister Nisha Aggarwal is the heroine.

Saptamasree Taskaraha

Director: Anil Radhakrishnan Menon

Cast: Prithviraj, Reenu Mathews

Anil Radhakrishnan Menon made an impressive debut with North 24 Kaatham last year.

In his latest film, Saptamasree Taskaraha, Prithviraj and Asif Ali are part of a gang of seven gentlemen thieves, who team up in jail and come out with a mission.

Reenu Mathews is the heroine. The director says Saptamasree Taskaraha is a ‘simple thriller’.
