A Los Angeles Latino wants to strike it rich as a Premiere league footballer. And Hollywood has cast its eyes at -- who else? -- British soccer sensation David Beckham to play a part in the first of a trilogy on football. This bit of information just came in from the Guardian Unlimited.

Called Goal! -- now there's an original title -- the £30 million film (and that's only for the first episode) will be produced by Lawrence Bender, Mike Jefferies and Matt Barrelle. A production member is quoted to have said they are 'close to agreeing to a deal with Beckham'.

If Jefferies is to be believed, the film will be 'Rocky meets 8 Mile'.

As with everything related to Beckham, there's a clamour: one of these premiere clubs -- Manchester United (associated with Nike), Chelsea (associated with Umbro) and Newcastle United (associated with Adidas) -- will finally be chosen as the setting.

Indications point towards Newcastle United heading the fray, says the Guardian. The question now is: can Beckham act?
